I rarely post a picture of myself on this blog (I think I have 3 times, this being the third), and you can see why. I am the real frumpy mom. I am the kind of person that the people doing these makeover shows would shake a finger at, then hug because they feel so sorry for me. If there is no where to go, I don’t get dressed. Yes, these are my pjs.
A friend on Facebook posted as her status the other day that she wished she could have a job where she wore her pjs. I do – mother, writer, and homesteader. In this particular picture taken yesterday for this post, I am wearing a thermal shirt that happens to be the first present John’s mother ever bought for me. I have been with John for fifteen years, so there is no need for any math to figure out how old this shirt is. As for the pants, I have to apologize, I don’t sport cartoon characters usually. I had nothing else clean. Both of these garments are more than several sizes too big for me. My shoes are used. I am the third owner of them. First they were my sister’s, then my mother’s, and now they are mine. 🙂 The soles are falling off, but they still work good for sloshing around in our current muddy situation (Did you see the dozer?). My hair, I know you think is lovely. 😉 A twig bun in the back, with no brushing beforehand. Just up and twig. Oh, and no makeup. I rarely do makeup even when I’m getting dressed up.
Now, I have heard people on TV and in print accusing mothers like me of having low self esteem, being lazy, and taking no pride in themselves. I’m not buying it. Why would I want to wear my nice clothes to clean house, cook, and tend children, dogs, and poultry? I don’t. I’m not putting on an outfit to hang out in the holler. I might if I’m getting company, but that’s a big might. 😉
I don’t think John cares what I wear from day to day, and I am satisfied in my pjs. It’s not because I fancy myself ugly. I can dress for an occasion and that is exactly what I do. I love comfort and ease. I have too many other important things to worry about like preparing nutritious meals, homeschooling the girls, doing a yoga session, reading a good book, or writing this blog post.

thank you for sharing this! i totally agree. Unless i’m absolutely certain that i will be leaving the house that day, the curlers stay in my hair and i walk around in a nursing tank and sweatpants 🙂 i will admit though that i do love clothes. but for what i do right now, there’s no need.

I love it, you look just like me right down to the hair! I am currently sporting blue sweatpants, my hubby’s tee that is two sizes too large and a pink bathrobe that has seen better days. It’s still early, but the only thing that is likely to change is the bathrobe. My dh says he thinks I look “cute” but I do sometimes feel bad, I was always such a girly girl before becoming a mommy. You are right though, our jobs are way too messy to get all dressed up for, thanks for posting this.

You do look comfy :). You have such a lovely smile. I have a uniform of sorts, but mine is a t-shirt, jeans, and either flip-flops or a pair of converse sneakers. I do have to go out in public every day, though, what with all these kids and their activities. If I ever have a rare day when I’m home most of the day (there’s never one when I’m home all day unless someone is ill), I will wear athletic pants instead of jeans. That’s about as relaxed as I’ll let myself get, for fear of lazing around on the couch in comfort. That laundry won’t fold itself!

I also wear my pj’s a lot! I hear people talk about spending 30 minutes to gussy up in the mornings and I think “To have a toddler use me as a climbing gym?”.
As long as you are happy with it, that’s what counts. I started wearing jeans and long skirts I got on sale lately instead of pj’s but that’s more because it’s hard to find nice pj bottoms anymore, it seems. I do have Tinkerbell pj bottoms, so don’t feel bad about your own cartoon bottoms!

I have two pair of sweatpants from Old Navy that I LOVE. I was telling my friend that I wear them one day, sleep in them that night, and wear them again the next day…then wash. She said OH GROSS! I was very confused…really? That’s gross? So yeah, I think I can relate to this post and my husband prefers me not to wear make-up…thank goodness.

PS: Will you write something for my blog?

I think you look lovely! Honestly. What else could be more lovely than a mama who is busy taking care of her children and her home? 🙂

Thanks ladies… really! I am cozy when I work. It is far too messy to wear my going out clothes around, and most days we are at home all day. Today, I dug post holes, a 15 foot trench, shoveled chicken poop and wiped Ivy’s snot nose on the fly. I like my uniform. 🙂 Not to mention, all my clothes kind of got too big for me, and as I am slowly acquiring more, I can’t be dirtying nice things or I’d have nothing to wear when I do go out. I like clothes too.

Simple Mama
Uh …yeah. I stopped getting dressed in even nice casual clothes when I realized they last about 30 minutes before a milk stain, applesauce hand print, or flour all over them. I still wear pseudo nice clothes when out in public, but just for hanging out at home? No thanks. I marvel at women that seemingly have it all together and look perfect. But then I wonder if they’re raising their children in the same manner I want to raise mine? Full of crafting, mud, baking, and joy!

Fun Mama - Deanna
I am currently wear a long-sleeved tshirt which I think is a hand-me-down, but I’ve had it so long that I can’t remember where it came from, and a pair of sweatpants that I found in my closet, along with crocs and a ponytail. I’m only wearing the crocs because I just came in from taking out the compost. Abigail is wearing a swim shirt and a pair of leggings and some crocs because she dressed herself this morning. I understand where the people on tv are coming from, but I’m wearing these clothes because I’m comfortable. I’m a big ol’ flaming feminist, but I’m a stay-at-home mama in pjs and I’m proud of it!

I do the same thing-when I’m at home-which is most of the time-I wear my old jogging pants-and my old t-shirts in the summer-and old sweatshirts in the winter. My husband sometimes teases me about my mismatched sweats but he loves me anyway : )

I work in an office everyday and that hairstyle you’re sporting? That’s what my head looks like too – (except I now have bangs) complete with lack of brushing. I’ll rock it out for date night though.
You are dressed perfectly for writing and doing yoga and hanging out with kiddos. Absolutely.

I found you thru Blind Pig and the Acorn and I’ve really enjoyed reading your blog! Up until a week ago I worked retail and if I had to go in later in the day, I was in my pj’s til I had to get ready. Look forward to reading more about your adventures.
